Dr Rusi Jaspal is a Social Psychologist and Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham, UK. He is interested in the inter-relations between social representation, identity and social action. Dr Jaspal's research examines (i) the evolution of social representations and their personalisation at the level of the individual; (ii) the socio-psychological processes underlying the construction and management of identities; and (iii) how groups and individuals respond to threatened identity (social action). Breakwell’s Identity Process Theory was designed to address the tripartite relationship between representation, identity and action. Dr Jaspal's current research employs and seeks to develop the theory in a variety of empirical contexts, using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. His work is firmly committed to topical social concerns (e.g. national identity, prejudice and climate change) and to the development of possible psychosocial interventions for their resolution.
