About
I am currently in the first year of my PhD in which I will be looking at Gilles Deleuze’s concept of the société de contrôle and the French education system.
I will be seeking to find if and how the shift to this society of control posited by Deleuze manifests itself in the French secondary education system. To do so I plan to carry out an empirical case study of a French secondary school, looking particularly at classroom practices.
As part of my thesis I will be looking at the differences between Foucault’s concept of discipline and Deleuze’s concept of control; the relation between the theory of a control society, theories of post/hypermodernity and sociological studies of risk society, postmodern society and hypermodern society; and the changing policies and practices in the French education system at various levels.
My other interests include: contemporary subjects and subjectivities (especially Deleuze’s concept of the dividual) and their political implications; concepts of political agency; the politics of education; concepts of revolution and the revolutionary; and subjectivation/subjectivisation.
