Thesis Title: Developing my Theory of Practice as a Teacher-Researcher through a case-study of CLIL classroom interaction
About
Dr Rolf Wiesemes is employed as senior research fellow and Visual Learning Lab co-ordinator. (http://www.visuallearninglab.ac.uk) at the School of Education / The University of Nottingham. Apart from his strong interest in visual learning and especially in the use of video conferencing with schools and for teacher training through his work in the Teaching and Learning Observatory he is interested in ways to develop strategic learning and thinking skills in modern foreign language classrooms.
Rolf is also currently involved in a DELPHE project with the Kigali Institute of Education entitled ‘Educaiton for Community Cohesion. For further information about this project please follow this link: http://www.edcoco.org.
His other research interests are in the field of classroom interaction in modern foreign language classrooms, in particular CLIL classrooms.
Methodologically, he is interested in cross-disciplinary research as exemplified in his current and past involvement in cross- and inter-disciplinary research, the use and development of theory of practice, case study approaches, the use of focus group interviews with (secondary school) learners and the use of new technologies for conducting (classroom) research and the use of technologies for learning in environments where access to technology is limited.
After his undergraduate studies, Rolf worked for several years in educational publishing, then he worked as a foreign language and CLIL teacher and part-time BILD researcher. He has completed his PhD in November 2002. His PhD is based on research conducted in the CLIL classroom that he taught in for two years and addresses ways of understanding CLIL classroom interaction as a teacher-researcher.
