About
I obtained my PhD from the University of Nottingham under the supervision of Prof. J.D. Hirst.
The project aimed to improve the use and understanding of linear dichroism (LD) spectra of proteins. To aid the interpretation of the experimental spectra, calculations of theoretical LD spectra were performed. Furthermore, the project involved the improvement of the established circular dichroism (CD) calculation routine to enhance the quality of the computed protein CD spectra.
It was also aimed to make CD and LD calculations available for public use, what was done by creating the web interface DichroCalc.
Thus, the main topics were
- Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy
- Linear Dichroism Spectroscopy
- Programming tasks (including the development of a Perl-based PDB parser and a web interface to make the calculations publicly available).
DichroCalc can be accessed and used at
http://comp.chem.nottingham.ac.uk/dichrocalc
The PDB parser ParsePDB.pm (Perl library) can be downloaded at
